N-YHS embarked on a two-phase renovation of their image as a locked armory of artifacts on Central Park West.  Through a reorganization of the entries, galleries, museum store and cafe and event spaces, and surgical penetrations through the thrice-protected landmark facade, the structure
now invites the public to view its vast collections,
and entices passers-by with glimpses of
the treasures within.  Delineating sharply and
thoughtfully between altered historic shell and
a clean, contemporary interior, the renovation
strikes a balance of improvement of interior
program and respect of historic character.
