Three Big Kitchen Moves That Made Our Clients Say “Woah!”

We’re sharing the before-and-after floor plans that are transforming three forever homes. Scroll to see how smart space planning can completely reframe the way these homes live.

Audubon

In reviewing this historic floor plan, we saw an opportunity to add both a walk-in pantry and a mudroom off the driveway side of the house. By shifting the kitchen over, we carved out a combined pantry/mudroom while preserving the historic proportions of the front rooms. This new layout also creates a stronger connection to the rear yard—perfect for entertaining.

Esplanade

The existing kitchen configuration worked, but lacked the ideal proportions of a true galley and didn’t offer guests a comfortable spot to gather while the host prepped meals. We relocated the kitchen to the back room (previously the primary bedroom), opening it up to the spacious backyard. This move made room for a functional entryway with a drop zone and a pass-through mudroom, while the primary suite was reimagined at the front of this historic home.

Marquette

This large property had a catering-style kitchen tucked away from the home’s active living areas—a clear result of a previous renovation with different priorities. Our redesign brings the kitchen into the heart of the home, reconnecting it with everyday activity and energy. #marquettebka

Each of these kitchen moves started with listening—understanding how our clients wanted to live in their homes and what wasn’t working. By rethinking layout and flow, we’ve created spaces that feel intentional, welcoming, and ready for years of memory-making. Whether it's carving out a pantry, reimagining circulation, or moving the kitchen entirely, thoughtful design makes all the difference.
