In 2002, The University of Texas at Austin received a grant to fund a design/build studio to provide an on-site two bedroom home for the manager of an environmental restoration ranch near Johnson City, Texas.  The structure would also serve as a model home, displaying active and passive conservation strategies and serve as an example against the type of development that has been creeping westward from the urban center of Austin, Texas.
